Video: Body Cam Footage Released After Aurora Police Fatally Shoot 14 Year Old Jor’Dell Richardson

On Friday June 9, Aurora PD released body cam footage leading up to the fatal shooting that left a 14 year old boy dead.

The incident occurred on June 1 when officers responded to a robbery call near Dayton Street and 8th Avenue.

According to authorities 14 year old Jor’dell Richardson and others had just robbed a convenience store. The teens were running when officers began chasing them.

Once officers caught Richardson another officer yelled out that he had a gun, which later was determined to be a pellet gun that resembled a 9mm.

While officers had Richardson on the ground you could hear him yelling “Stop, please, you got me”. Officer Roch Gruszeczka was then heard yelling on the video “Gun, gun, let go of the (expletive) gun. I’m going to shoot your ass! Dude, I’m going to shoot you!”

Moments later you can hear a shot ring out and the teen screaming. Once officers realize they’ve shot Richardson and he is a teen you can see them trying to perform cpr. He was transported to an area hospital where he died from his injuries.

According to the family attorney for Richardson, Siddhartha Rathod, Richardson was surrendering to authorities when he was fatally shot.

Aurora Police Chief Art Acevedo released a statement and spoke with the family expressing his condolences on behalf of the police department.

At this time the shooting is being investigated by the district attorneys office. Gruszeczka has been placed on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
