Family members of Aaron Martinez, who was shot multiple times while sitting alone in his pickup truck, are certain the crime was racially driven.

The 35-year-old husband and loving father moved his family to Forney 2.5 years ago to open a horse training ranch. The family says when they first moved, a neighbor, Trevor McEwan, 30, approached them and told them that Hispanics were not welcome in the area.

On May 1, McEwan was spotted by police leaving the vicinity where Martinez was murdered.

Police were called to the 9800 block of Neal Road where they found Martinez fatally wounded inside a vehicle with 15-16 bullet holes through it.

Authorities followed McEwan from the scene and after a short standoff, he was taken into custody and later confessed to the crime.

Family members and loved one are asking the media’s help to ensure hate crime charges are added on to the killer.

McEwan was charged with Murder and is currently in the Kaufman County Detention Center on a $2 million bond.
