On January 18, Amazon started laying off its employees in certain areas of the business. The estimated total amount of people that will be laid off is 18,000.

CEO Andy Jassy announced his intentions of the companies largest workforce reduction earlier this month.

Employees at the Amazon Stores division and the PXT organizations are those of which are affected in the layoffs.

The Amazon Stores division is responsible for the e-commerce, while the PXT organizations handles Human Resources.

Jassy says the reason for the cut-back is because the company did an over-massive hire during the pandemic. He also blamed the poor economy for the needed downsizing.
