A man who killed a robbery suspect last week in Houston has been interviewed by police and released a statement regarding the fatal shooting.
Last Thursday around 11:30 p.m. a masked man entered the Ranchito Taqueria on S. Gessner near Bellaire Boulevard.
The man was armed when he entered the restaurant and he demanded money from all the customers before leaving. While leaving one of the customers pulled out a gun and shot him multiple times.
Before leaving the store the customer went and gave all the other customers their wallets and belongings back from the robber.
The customers then left the store before officers could arrive.
When authorities did arrive they found the suspect 30 year old Eric Eugene Washington unresponsive from gunshot wounds. They also learned that the handgun Washington presented during the robbery was a fake.
On Wednesday an attorney representing Washington released a statement on his behalf saying that his client would like to remain anonymous and that he believes the shooting is justifiable.
Authorities stated that on Monday the 46 year old man spoke with investigators and explained his story of what occurred on the day of the robbery. After the interview Washington was released and no charges were filed.
Houston police said the case will be referred to a grand jury to determine if charges should be filed.
