Saudi Arabia To Make Exception For Ronaldo Regarding Marriage Law

625views

A law in Saudi Arabia bans couples that aren’t married from living together.

However, reports indicate that they are getting ready to make an exception for Al-Nassr’s new player, Cristiano Ronaldo.

In December 2022, the 37-year-old forward became a part of Al-Nassr and was the highest paid footballer. This came after his contract with the Premier League side was mutually ended.

Now, it has been said that Ronaldo and his partner, Georgina Rodriguez will be allowed to live together without consequences.

Cristiano met Rodriguez in 2016 as he plied his trade with Spanish giants, Real Madrid. They have resided together as marital partners and have five children, but they aren’t actually married.

Ronaldo, who is Portuguese, has moved to Saudi, already residing with Rodriguez. Sources say that he probably won’t face consequences because of his status as he is one of the most marketable athletes internationally.

“Although the laws still prohibit cohabitation without a marriage contract, authorities have begun to turn a blind eye and do not prosecute anyone. Of course, these laws are used when there is a problem or a crime,” one Saudi lawyer said.

“The Saudi Arabian authorities, today, do not interfere in this matter [in the case of foreigners], but the law continues to prohibit cohabitation outside marriage,” said another lawyer.
