While celebrating his birthday in Turks and Caicos, Kent Carter, the first Vice-President of the Arlington, Virginia, branch of the NAACP, was killed during an ambush.
On Sunday, October 2, two men pulled alongside Carter on the island and started to shoot.
Authorities had first reported that a local medical facility was on lockdown. They encouraged locals and tourists to refrain from going to the hospital unless it was an emergency.
Additional information noted that a vehicle with workers who worked close by and two tourists who had just left an event was a targeted attack.
Sources say that the offense was committed by armed criminals who shot into a vehicle, killing a local employee and a tourist from the United States.
Carter’s girlfriend, Alonia Williams, stated that she had accompanied him on vacation. She said that they had been at the beach before going back to their hotel by shuttle. When the shooting happened, she says that Carter used his body to keep her safe.
It is reported that Carter was an ex-special agent and veteran.
