On Tuesday, Joaquin Salinas, 48, was given a sentence of life in federal prison. This was for receiving a delivery of $3.7 million worth of methamphetamine kept in boxes of cauliflower.

In March of 2022, the Dallas man pleaded guilty to conspiracy to possess with the intent to distribute methamphetamine.

Court records show that in August 2021, Salinas received almost 545 pounds of the narcotics, stashed in boxes of cauliflower.

At the hearing on Tuesday, federal agents stated that the meth had come from Mexico. They added that Salinas was connected to two various street gangs, linked to Mexican drug cartels.

In June, Angel Cabrera, one of Salinas’ co-defendants, pleaded guilty to one count of conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute methamphetamine. Cabrera hasn’t been sentenced as of yet.

At the same time, another co-defendant, Omar Jorge Valle Estrada, pleaded not guilty to unspecified charges and is waiting to be tried in court.
