Inmate Forced To Listen To “Baby Shark” For Hours Found Dead In Jail Cell

Over the weekend, an Oklahoma inmate was discovered deceased in his cell. He was a part of a lawsuit against Oklahoma County that accused workers of torturing him in jail. He had said that they made him listen to “Baby Shark” for hours, in 2019.

Reports indicate that 48-year-old John Basco wad found unconscious, in his cell, on Sunday morning, as officers were performing site checks. Basco was given life-saving measures but was declared deceased a little while later.

A representative of the jail stated that there was no sign of foul play, but a drug overdose is a possibility. The state medical examiner will determine the cause of death.

On September 8, Basco had been placed in jail for drug trafficking. He was also involved in suing the county after being handcuffed to a wall and made to listen to “Baby Shark” for hours, on two separate instances, three years ago. A retired lieutenant at the jail and two other officers were terminated in relation to the incident. Those three men have been charged with misdemeanors.

Basco had a criminal record that dates back to the 90s, for drugs and gun offenses. He was given a 10-year sentence for second-degree murder in 2000 but was freed in 2007.

The Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation will assist with the on-going review of Basco’s death.
