This Sunday will be Patriot Day. As such, a country club restaurant in Stafford County, Virginia, created a special menu. Then, they received backlash.
On September 11, 2022, the Clubhouse at Aquia Harbour, in Stafford, was planning to have a menu for “Seafood Sunday.”
Each day, there was expected to be a themed menu. This certain option has dishes such as the “First Responder Flatbread,” “9-11 Oysters,” and “Flight 93 Redirect” crab dip. The establishment was also set to provide chocolate silk “Pentagon Pie,” key lime-flavored “Remember-tini,” and the “Never Forget” Sampler which has a small portion of each dish.
The original menu has been taken down, but had already circulated social media.
On September 6, George White, the club manager, issued an apology.
“I apologize for those offended with the 9/11 seafood Sunday post. My intention was to bring attention to that horrific day 21 years ago. To honor those who lost so much as well as those who gave everything that day. We will have a new theme tomorrow,” he wrote.
The Clubhouse has noted that the new theme will be football-related. It will include “Field Gold Flatbread,” “Offense Oysters,” “Hot Defense Dip,” and “Coin Toss Chocolate Pie.”
