Last week, a Christian school, in Fayetteville, North Carolina, Northwood Temple Academy, baptized 100 kids without giving their parents any notification.
When some parents found out that the sacred event took place, they were angry.
“My daughter calls me from the school and says, ‘Mama, can you bring me some dry clothes? I got baptized today,” the parent stated. “I said, ‘WHAT?'”
The mother added that she found out that her 11-year-old daughter had been baptized while she was conducting a conference call at her place of employment.
Northwood Principal, Renee McLamb, says that a couple of students were getting baptized that day, initially. However, as the ceremony was occurring, she says other students felt moved to take part, as well. McLamb reported that the intent wasn’t to keep the ceremony private nor away from parents.
Many parents expressed their opposition to the ceremony, citing that they would have wanted to be in attendance. Another parent said that this baptism seemed to undo “the baptism that had already taken place at their church.”
“…they should have corralled the kids in the back of the church, another room-somewhere-and said, ‘We understand your desire to get this done. We’d love for your families to be here and present with you,” a parent stated.
“Or invitations even,” she continued.
