On Sunday, around 1 a.m., a man set a building ablaze, killing four people and wounding two others. He then shot at people who were running away from the scene.

The Houston, Texas police chief, Troy Finner stated that the suspect is one of the four people who died. This occurred after a Houston officer killed him.

The people who died were all males, ages 40 to 60.

The incident happened at a “multiple-room renting facility” at 8020 Dunlap Street. There, the suspect had been a resident for a long time.

“The suspect, unfortunately, and very sadly, and very evilly, set fire to several residents,” Finner said.

“The suspect then “laid in wait for those residents to come out and fired upon them,” he added. The fire department had initially come on the scene to put the fire out, then the man started shooting.

“The suspect began to fire. I don’t know if he was firing in their direction, but they had to take cover,” the police chief said.

An officer got to the scene and exchanged gunfire with the assailant, resulting in the suspect dying. That officer, a seven-year veteran, has been placed on administrative leave.

The property manager told authorities that the man had been evicted recently. One of the victims was said to be the 65-year-on-site manager.

The suspect was said to be an African-American man, in his 40s, wearing all black.
