Community outraged after finding out a plea agreement is in the works for a Texas man who allegedly beat a 2-year-old boy.

Charles Brooks Jr., 30, was arrested for beating 2-year-old Blake Sampson to near-death in 2021. The little boy, who suffered a traumatic brain injury, will need 24-hour care for the rest of his life.

Brooks is charged with injury to a child with intent to cause severe bodily injury and serious mental deficiency or impairment. The first-degree felony carries a maximum sentence of 99 years or life in prison.

According to family and friends of 2-year-old Blake, Dallas County Prosecutors in the case informed them that there would not be a plea deal on the table for Brooks. However, a recent court document shows an announcement in the case scheduled on Thursday.

According to the legal document, Brooks may possibly take a plea agreement/offer and receive 55 years for the charge.

Prosecutors, District Attorneys, and Brooks’s lawyer will gather in court regarding the case Thursday morning at 9 a.m.

  3. I thought the DA needed the families consent to move forward with a plea deal??? This is wrong. Give him the max!!!

  4. I understand this defendant has family wealth. Is there a civil suit pending against him? He needs to pay for this child’s care for the rest of his life. This man is a despicable human being. Every thing he has done from maiming this child to running from the consequences of his actions shows exactly how despicable.
