A man and a woman in St. Louis County, Missouri, are facing charges after a baby they were taking care of ingested fentanyl earlier this week.
22-year-old Jerome Jones and 21-year-old Destini McConnell have been charged with endangering the welfare of a child (causing serious physical injury).
Authorities say that the incident occurred in a residence in the 10000 block of Spring Garden Drive. There, Jones and McConnell had been taking care of an 11-month-old who had located the fenatnyl. Detectives say that the pair waited 15 minutes after the child had ingested the substance and became unresponsive to call 911.
Court documents show that if the baby lives, there will probably be severe brain damage.
Detectives didn’t mention what the relationship is between McConnell, Jones, and the child.
McConnell and Jones are being held in custody on $100,000 bonds. A judge has prohibited them from making any contact with the victim.
