An former officer, from Virginia, who participated in the U.S. Capitol riot, has been given over seven years in federal prison Thursday.

Thomas Robertson was convicted by a jury in Washington on all six counts in April.

His former co-worker and fellow defendant, Jacob Fracker, had taken a plea. Fracker said that Robertson wished to “overturn” the election and that he wouldn’t have gone to Washington if it wasn’t for Robertson. Prosecutors had stated that Robertson had a stick in his possession as he blocked officers’ way at the Capitol.

The judge in the case stated that it seems as though Robertson still has faith in ex-President Donald Trump’s conspiracy theories regarding the 2020 presidential election. He added that he thinks that Robertson would “answer a call” to violence in the future.

“Thomas Robertson, despite swearing an oath of office when he became a police officer, joined the violent mob at the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021, and did so while armed. Today’s sentence holds him accountable for his role in the violence that day.”

After they were apprehended, Robertson and Fracker were terminated.

The judge stated that he didn’t think that Robertson had taken accountability for his actions on Jan 6, thus giving him the harsh sentence.
