3-year-old Kendrick Engram Jr., from Georgia, died after his grandmother unintentionally left him inside of a hot vehicle for many hours.
On Sunday evening, the boy was discovered deceased in the car, in the parking lot of a Wendy’s location, in Columbus. His uncle found him after borrowing the SUV to get ice cream, not knowing the child was in there.
Earlier that day, Engram Jr.’s grandmother had taken him and three other children to church and to eat. They then arrived back home, close to 5:30 p.m.
The grandmother didn’t realize that the 3-year-old was missing until about 8 p.m. She called the boy’s uncle who had borrowed the car. He then looked back and found his nephew still buckled into a third-row car seat. Just after 9 p.m., the child was declared deceased.
The Muscogee County Coroner noted that Engram Jr. passed away from asphyxiation after being in the hot vehicle for close to three hours. On Sunday, the temperature in Columbus was in the 90s.
Authorities say that there was an indication that the child attempted to get out.
It isn’t known if anyone will face charges in the matter.
