A boxer from South Africa has received backlash after his opponent died following their boxing match last week.
Siphesihle Mntungwa says that he is receiving threats and hate from people accusing him of killing Simiso Buthelezi, 24.
The two South African boxers were battling it out, when Simiso became disoriented during the 10th round. Simiso walked over to one of the corners of the ring and began punching the air. The referee was then forced to end the match.
Following the referee’s call, Simiso collapsed and was rushed to the hospital where he later died.
The tragic incident left Mntungwa dealing with the guilt and backlash he has received. He recently opened up to a news outlet, saying he is contemplating taking his own life.
Mntungwa’s manager said that because of the hate they’re receiving, Mntungwa is unable to go to the funeral and pay his respects like he wants to.
The manager acknowledged Mntungwa opening up about wanting to take his life and says they are getting him the help he needs.
