A German city, Goettingen, will be the first place within Germany to allow men and women to swim topless in swimming pools.
The sports committee of Goettingen recommended a test run for swimming topless weekends only from May 1 to August 31.
This recommendation was fueled after an apparent female swimmer was asked to cover up. This swimmer replied that they identified as a male. Despite the swimmers gender identification, they were removed from the pool and ultimately banned.
In order to create non discriminatory atmospheres at the pools, the local authorities partnered with the city sports committee to create a potential solution. Their partnership generated the three month test run.
Throughout Germany nudity is normal on beaches and nature. The country also has a nudist movement known as FKK (Frei-Körper-Kultur) which means free body culture.
