Sheriff’s Deputy Charged In Fatal Car Crash, Involving A Mom And Her Two Daughters On Mother’s Day
Emily Pelletier, a Charleston County, South Carolina, sheriff’s deputy, has been charged with three counts of reckless homicide.
Troopers with the South Carolina Highway Patrol say that Pelletier was traveling 73 miles per hour when she blew past a stop sign. She then collided with another vehicle, killing a mom and her two children.
Stephanie Dantzler, 53, and her daughters, Shanice Dantzler-Williams, 28, and Miranda Dantzler-Williams, 22, were identified as the deceased.
The sheriff’s office said that Pelletier was going to assist a driver who was experiencing car issues and didn’t have her lights nor sirens on. The incident occurred on May 8, 2022, on Mother’s Day.
Documents note that a Toyota sedan was going south on U.S. Highway 17 as the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office’s car was going west on New Road when the crash happened.
“…she ran a stop sign and collided with, hit the vehicle that was driven by Shanice. She struck the vehicle, there’s no doubt about that,” said Sheriff Kristin Graziano, after an internal investigation was conducted.
The officer’s dash cam video wasn’t recording at the time of the crash.
