Hepatitis A Outbreak In The U.S. May Be Connected To Organic Fresh Strawberries

1.1kviews

The FDA and other agencies have launched an investigation regarding a hepatitis A outbreak. This is taking place in the U.S. and Canada and may be connected to organic fresh strawberries.

Between March 5 and April 25 the fresh strawberries were purchased under the FreshKampo and HEB brands, the agency noted.

17 cases are being investigated. These include 15 occurrences in California, and one in Minnesota and the other in North Dakota. 10 cases have been reported in Canada.

The HEB and FreshKampo strawberries were available at stores such as Trader Joe’s, Kroger, Safeway, Aldi, Walmart, and HEB.

The FDA advises that if it is unknown when, where, or what brand was bought, the strawberries should be thrown away.

In a statement, HEB says that they “have not received or sold organic strawberries from the supplier under investigation since April 16.”

There may be some who haven’t been vaccinated against hepatitis A and ate the strawberries in question. They should contact their healthcare provider, the agency said.

Some of the signs of hepatitis A include fever, dark urine, jaundice, fatigue, and nausea.
