25-year-old Tesia White has been apprehended and charged with animal cruelty. Authorities say that four dogs died after she left them in a hot vehicle on Thursday.
White, from Missouri, was eating lunch in New Smyrna Beach, Florida, at a dining location on Canal Street. The dogs were left behind in the car.
She told authorities that the air conditioner had been on, and the windows were rolled up. She also said that she had gone back to her car one time during her hour lunch to check on the dogs’ welfare.
However, when her meal was complete, she saw that all four dogs had died in her vehicle.
“I’m outside of Corkscrew Bar and Grill…we have four dogs on the side,” a caller stated to 911 dispatchers. “They accidentally turned the air conditioner off in the car. They were trapped in a hot car, and now they are all laying on their side, and none of them are moving. We’re pouring water on them, but they look unconscious,” the caller reported. The heat index was said to be 89 degrees at the time.
“I should not be allowed to own a dog. I cannot believe I let this happen,” White said at the scene as she and her boyfriend were crying.
Authorities say that the dogs were a 4-week-old Goldendoodle, two 12-week-old Goldendoodle puppies, and a two-year-old Boxer.
White is facing four charges of felony animal cruelty. She was taken into custody at the Volusia County Jail with a $10,000 bond.
She was seen very emotional during her court appearance.
