On May 22, Sheffield, Alabama, police officer, John Christian Nix, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The 26-year-old’s body was discovered in his residence by Sheffield police.
“It is with a heavy heart that the Sheffield Police Department is sad to report the passing of Officer John Christian Nix. He was an outstanding Police Officer and was loved by his fellow officers and the community,” stated Police Chief Ricky Terry.
Nix had been with the department since July 26, 2017. His obituary says that he wanted to be an officer in order to help those in need.
“He had an incredible ability to make everyone he encountered laugh. He would do whatever it took to turn someone’s day around. He was kind, and he loved those around him deeply…,” the obituary added.
Nix leaves behind his parents, siblings, grandparents, and cousins.
He was laid to rest on May 26.
