One of the founders of Black Lives Matter admitted to lying about using the foundation’s $6 million Los Angeles mansion for personal enjoyment.
Former co-founder Patrisse Cullors admitted on Monday that she used the BLM mansion for non-business-related matters on two separate occasions.
The first event, in January 2021, was a celebration of the inauguration of President Joe Biden. The second event, in March 2021, was a birthday party for her young son.
Cullors has previously denied ever living on the property or using it for personal gain after allegations against her and her co-founders arose.
BLM co-founders, Alicia Garza, Melina Abdullah, and Patrisse Cullors were under fire last month for allegedly misusing funds. Sources claim the trio secretly bought the $6 million property using funds from the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation.
Cullors claimed the property wasn’t publicly announced before because it needed repairs and renovations. “I do not own the property, have never lived there, and made that clear to the reporter.”
She then went on to explain, “the property was purchased in 2020 as a space where those within the Black Lives Matter Global Network Foundation and broader movement community could work, create content, host meetings and foster creativity.”
Prior to the drama involving the property, Cullors faced allegations of using donations for personal use. The scandal ultimately led to her resignation from the foundation in May 2021.
