Liberty County Sheriff Deputies responded to a 911 call about a shooting and found a 60-year-old man shot in the stomach while his neighbor continued to do his yard work.

William Womack, 60, and his neighbor Eric Elliott, 70, have had a history of disturbances with each other, many of which were about Womack’s dog getting loose.

On Friday around 2:45, Womack’s dog went on to Elliott’s property, who was doing yard work at the time. Elliott saw Womack’s step-daughter outside and told her that if they did not keep their dog out of his yard, he was going to kill it.

After she told her step-dad about what happened and that the neighbor threatened their dog’s life, Womack went to confront Elliott.

According to witnesses, when the two men met in the street, Elliott kicked Womack in the leg and then pulled a gun from his waist and shot Womack in the stomach.

While Womack’s wife and step-daughter were screaming and trying to call for help, Elliott put his gun in his truck and continued with his yard work as if nothing ever happened.

Womack was transported by Life Flight to a hospital where he was later pronounced deceased.

Elliott was arrested and charged with murder.
