Two police officers have quit their jobs. This comes after they were accused of stealing bicycles while off-duty last year in Lower Township, New Jersey. Their resignations was a component of a plea deal.
Eric Campbell and Austin Craig, the officers, were seen on surveillance camera footage, in October, stealing the bikes from the Decatur Street area in Cape May.
“Both of the officers entered into pretrial intervention. Part of this plea agreement is that they are prohibited from public employment within Cape May County,” stated the prosecutor’s office.
The two officers, who are both 38, were charged with fourth-degree theft.
Both men are now a part of the PTI diversionary program for first-time offenders with minor or no criminal record. If they finish the program, the PTI offenders will not have a criminal record.
Documents reveal that Campbell began working in 2019, and made $48, 907. Craig was hired in 2016 and was making $48,071 a year.
