A Missouri couple has been charged with child endangerment after police discovered filthy living conditions for their five children.

Poplar Bluff police officers went to the residence of Aaron and Teyrsa Medley for an unrelated matter regarding drug activity.

Upon arrival, officers saw trash bags full of trash scattered in the front yard. There was also loose trash in the lawn, drive way, and porch.

Officers could smell the odor from bad personal hygiene emitting from the Medley’s. They also smelled an extremely foul odor coming from the home.

Living in the home with them, the Medley’s have five children, ranging from age 1 to 9.

The couple gave verbal consent to allow officers to enter their home.

Officers said they smelled what they described as a “pungent odor that made their stomachs churn” when they entered the home.

Each room was covered with loose trash and large bags of trash, animal/human feces, urine and dirt.

Used toilet paper and diapers were found on the floors.

The refrigerator and freezer were filled with numerous dead roaches. On the stove was a dish that had dead maggot larvae under the lid.

Officers requested assistance from social services and the five children were removed from the residence.

The Medley’s were arrested on 5 counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child in the 1st Degree.

Their bond was set at $10,000.
