An Iowa man who faked his own death to avoid trial has been arrested after nearly six years on the run.
Jacob Greer, 28, went on the run after facing a trial for child pornography charges. He became a “survivalist” and planned to “live off the land” for the rest of his life.
Greer was arrested back in April 2016 for the receipt and possession of child pornography. He was released under pretrial supervision, wearing an ankle monitor to track his location if needed.
On May 31, 2016 Greer’s probation officer received an alert that his GPS device had been removed. Multiple agencies launched a search trying to locate his whereabouts.
Greer’s vehicle was later found with a suicide note inside of it, but no body. Authorities issued a federal arrest warrant for him that same day.
On June 8, 2016, investigators found a vehicle in Montana that Greer bought with a $1,000 loan from a friend. Authorities learned that he fled Iowa with money and a backpack filled with survival gear.
On Monday, authorities located Greer and arrested him in Spanaway, Washington. Prior to his arrest, Greer was last spotted on June 3, 2016 at a Walmart. For 6 years he went untraceable.
Greer is currently at the Federal Detention Center in Seattle, Washington and will be expedited to Iowa where he will wait to stand trial.
