On Thursday, a rally will take place at Dallas City Hall at 6 p.m. Its goal will be to persuade the Texas Board of Pardons and Paroles to release Texas death row inmate Melissa Lucio.
Lucio was found guilty for the death of her daughter 15 years ago in the city of Harlingen.
Prosecutors had said that the 2-year-old exhibited signs of abuse on her body. However, relatives said that the child died after falling down steps.
On April 27, Lucio is supposed to be executed. However, state legislators on have called to have the execution stopped.
Local leaders, State Rep. Victoria Neave Criado, and one of Lucio’s sons are planning to be in attendance at the rally.
On Wednesday, seven representatives from the Texas House met with Lucio at a prison in Gatesville.
“…not saying Ms. Lucio is innocent. We’re not saying she’s guilty. We’re saying for the board to provide her some clemency, so we can get her into a trial,” expressed State Rep. James White.
Hulu and HBO have featured Lucio’s case. Kim Kardashian has also said that she supports Lucio and has signed a petition, requesting Abbott to halt Lucio’s execution.
