Missing Surgeon Found Dead After Hiking Trip

Kelsey Musgrove, a 26-year-old surgeon, went on a hike at Potato River Falls in Iron County, Wisconsin. She informed her loved ones she “reached the Potato River Falls in Gurney.” on Saturday, March 26.

On Wednesday, March 30, Musgrove had not returned home to Middleton, Wisconsin. As of 12:07pm Wednesday, Musgrove was reported missing.

Deputies discovered Musgrove’s vehicle in a parking area at Potato River Falls. Iron County Sheriffs Office began an air, ground, and water search. About 25 agencies assisted with the search from Michigan, Wisconson, and Minnesota.

Sheriff Paul Samardich released Sunday, April 2, 2022 that Kelsey Musgrove’s body had been recovered near the Potato River Falls. There has been no foul play suspected, but her cause of death is actively being investigated.

Musgrove was a cardiothoracic surgery fellow at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health.
“We would like to express our sincere condolences to Kelsey’s family,” the sheriff’s office said.
