On Friday, around 2 a.m., two young cousins died in what authorities are calling a murder-suicide. It happened at a birthday celebration, in St. Louis and was live-streamed.
Kuaron Harvey, 14, and Paris Harvey, 12, were on Instagram as Paris was playing with a gun. The gun accidentally fired, and her cousin died. Paris then shot herself, police say.
As officials called it a murder-suicide, the family disagrees.
“It was no murder. It wasn’t a suicide. It was a freak accident. It happened,” stated Paris’ mother, Shinise Harvey. She added that she doesn’t know where he daughter got the gun from.
“Paris dropped the gun, and it fell. It went off to my knowledge. And then, when she picked it up by the barrel, it went off. That’s all I know,” she added.
Family members who watched the video said that the cousins were “trying to be hip.” They were known to rap, make videos, and pull pranks together. They were described mores as siblings than cousins.
“No matter how good we raise our kids, they are still going to venture off,” said Shinise Harvey.
The results of the investigation haven’t been revealed.
