El Paso Man Facing Charges after Assaulting, Kidnapping, and Forcing Woman to go to Job Interview at a County Jail
An El Paso man is facing charges after kidnapping a woman and taking her with him to a job interview at the Otero County Jail.
Matthew Contreras, 25, assaulted and kidnapped his 23-year-old ex-girlfriend from her home.
The woman told police that she woke up on March 13 and found Contreras going through her cell phone. She said he was angry and was accusing her of cheating on him.
Contreras then assaulted her physically, splashed bleach all over her body, and put a knife to her throat that he also used to cut her hair off.
The victim told police that he also put a gun in her mouth. She says at one point she asked him to just kill her already.
Contreras then forced her at gunpoint to go with him to a job interview at the Otero County Jail.
At the jail, she was able to get the attention of a detention officer who ultimately rescued her.
The El Paso Police Department’s Crimes Against Persons Unit investigated and issued a warrant for Contreras’ arrest.
He was arrested on March 15 and booked into the El Paso County Jail. He was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Contreras was released the same day on a $100,000 bond. However, FBI agents arrested Contreras the following day and charged him with possession of a weapon or ammunition by a prohibited person.
