10-Year-Old Boy With Brain Cancer Becomes Honorary Police Officer In Spring ISD

On Tuesday, Devarjaye “DJ” Daniel, 10, was praised by being named an honorary sergeant in Houston’s Spring ISD.

Although he has a sickness, the young Texas boy has set a goal that he would bring awareness to childhood cancer by being sworn in at 100 law enforcement agencies in the state. He has exceeded his goal by being identified as an honorary officer at over 400 agencies.

Daniel is fighting brain and spine cancer and has a deep love for police work. At a Spring ISD board meeting on Tuesday evening, Daniel took an official oath, so he is now an honorary sergeant on the district’s force.

“He’s still going out, meeting people and doing things he’s wanted to do. With living with the type of cancer, knowing there’s no cure, he still gets up and goes forth to bring a smile to people’s faces. He can still do whatever he puts his mind to. It’s something that he’s not letting his diagnosis define who he is. He still gets up every day whether he’s in pain and decides to do that job,” expressed Spring ISD Officer Jarrod Morton.

A GoFundMe created for Daniel states that he is “one of three children, all being raised by a blue-collar single father who is a service-connected disabled military veteran who honorably served our country.”

Daniel’s family is raising money to assist with his medical bills and his quality of life.
