Zachary De La Rosa and Susanne Pierce were apprehended on March 18. This came after the Texas mother walked around town with the couple’s dead newborn until she passed out. They now say that they don’t know where the child is located.

Both face charges of injury to a child, and Pierce faces an additional count of abuse of a corpse.

Several witnesses had contacted the Cameron County Constable Precinct because they were concerned about the newborn. The couple was arrested two days later.

Detectives learned that a child had been birthed, but the whereabouts of the newborn were unknown shortly after that.

One witness disclosed that Pierce requested that she take clothes back to Walmart, earlier this month, because she had miscarried. She also stated that De La Rosa had called her frantically when Pierce was in labor, and she had seen Pierce breastfeeding the baby. The witness told them to take the child to the doctor, but they eventually told her that the baby didn’t survive.

De La Rosa told police that a baby had been born but didn’t know what Pierce had done with him. He stated that the newborn had stopped breathing, and he attempted CPR for two hours. He said that he passed out, and when he came to, Pierce and the baby were nowhere to be found.

Pierce told authorities that she had walked her dead baby around the town. She says she hid him in her shirt and covered him in blankets as she visited the cemetery, wanting to see the “dolphins and pelicans.”

Pierce said that she got trapped in mud and passed out. When she regained her consciousness, the baby wasn’t there. By that point, the water had risen, she pointed out.

Pierce was jailed on a $60,000 bond, and De La Rosa’s bail has been set at $70,000.
