Former CNN Employee, Sierra Jenkins, Killed In Shooting

Virginian-Pilot newspaper reporter and former CNN news assistant Sierra Jenkins was shot and killed along with another person in a Saturday morning shooting.

The incident took place outside a Chicho’s Pizza Backstage, around 2am. An argument broke out between some people and shots were fired.

Officers responded to the shooting to find Sierra Jenkins,25 and two other men suffering from gunshot wounds.

One of the two men were Devon M. Harris,25 who was pronounced dead at the scene. The other man and Jenkins were taken to an area hospital where Jenkins was pronounced dead.

Two other men were also transported to an area hospital with non life threatening injuries.

Jenkins was an editorial research intern with CNN for three months during the summer of 2020, and a news assistant with CNN Health from September to December 2020.

Shortly after, she began her job with the Virginian-Pilot as a breaking news reporter.

Norfolk’s commonwealth’s attorney expressed his condolences to the families of the victims via Twitter.

“Locally, we will do our utmost to seek justice and accountability with the laws we have, but the solutions to gun violence start with good personal choices and sensible reforms to our national and state laws to keep guns out of the hands of bad actors. We must come together.”

No suspects have been arrested at this time.

The investigation remains ongoing.
