A 13-year-old boy was driving a pickup truck when it hit a van killing 9 people in West Texas.

Now, a family friend has said that the 13-year-old also burned his family’s house down in December.

Ricky Siemens and his dad, Heinrich Siemens, 38, died when the tire on their 2007 Dodge 2500 blew. The Dodge then hit the median and went into a two-lane highway.

The truck struck a Transit van, transporting golfers and their coach from the University of the Southwest. Six of the golfers and their coach died. The father and son died, as well.

Agatha Siemens says that just prior to Christmas, another tragedy had also occurred in the family. The teen driver had been cooking eggs and forgot about them. The family’s home then burned to the ground. They were then without a home, and one of their pets died, too.

An online fundraiser stated that the family was seeking $30,000 subsequent to the fire.

“Their home burned down with all their personal belongings inside. Some of the children ran out of the house without shoes. It’s hard to restart for this family of six,” read a statement from the fundraiser.
