On Friday, longtime Seattle Seahawks and NFL insider, John Clayton, 67, passed away in a hospital in Seattle, following a brief sickness.

Prior to working as a news reporter for the Seattle Seahawks from 1986 to 1998, Clayton covered the Pittsburgh Steelers, the city where he was born. In 1995, he began working for ESPN as an NFL insider and did so for 20 years. He was also widely-known for one of the best commercials ever “This is SportsCenter.”

In the 2017 season, Clayton, also known as “The Professor” became a part of the Seattle Seahawks radio broadcast team as a sideline reporter. He still had this position upon his death.

Other accomplishments include Clayton’s part in the unofficial “writer’s wing” of the Pro Football Hall of Fame. This came as he received what is now known as The Bill Nunn Memorial Award.
