Tamara Wallace was an ex-chief operating officer at Donate2Impact, a business that partners with local non-profits.
She has now been found guilty of embezzling more than $1.3 million in company money.
Wallace, from Flower Mound, Texas, was apprehended for felony theft in 2021. In January, she pleaded guilty.
Authorities say that Wallace stole the funds and then purchased designer purses. She also bought items to work on her home, spa services, and other personal things.
Reports indicate that Wallace supported nearly every part of her lifestyle with the company’s money, including multiple vacations.
The Denton County DA’s office stated that Wallace took petty cash and issued checks to herself. She used the company’s credit cards, almost maxing them out.
Additionally, Wallace was accused of taking money through payroll.
“She was giving herself bonuses. Both of her sons worked for the company. She was providing them with money that they shouldn’t have been earning, including bonuses,” stated the DA.
When the company’s CEO, Matthew Kloeber, observed abnormal activity on the credit cards, he was alarmed.
“I got a fraud alert, and it was for $5,000 for a wedding venue in Plano. I knew her son was about to get married. I thought, $5,000- it just didn’t make sense,” Kloeber said.
A portion of her plea deal requires Wallace to pay the company $500,000 in restitution upfront. After that, she must may the company back $86,000 per year.
If Wallace doesn’t pay the restitution, it will be a violation of her probation.
