A black woman feels racially profiled after Caseyville, Illinois police followed her from an alleged high drug motel in February.
Tanya Fox,40 claims she was leaving a motel in Caseyville when police pulled her over because the area was a high drug area.
She also accused the officers of twisting her arm and fingers while she was handcuffed. She also said they touched her inappropriately during a search.
Illinois State Police reviewed the dash cam videos and feel the officers didn’t do anything that appeared illegal.
They also feel like racial profiling had nothing to do with this incident and that the officers did not touch the woman inappropriately during the video.
Police Chief Tom Coppotelli says they only thing he feels the officers did wrong was talk disrespectfully.
The officers in return said that they stopped her because she did not come to a complete stop before turning right at two red lights near the hotel.
Fox says she doesn’t believe that because they brought up drug activity during the stop.
In an interview Fox said her family was living there temporarily because they were displaced from their home in Belleville. She said she was leaving for work the morning she was pulled over. It was about 7:45 a.m. on Saturday, Jan. 8.
No drugs were found driving the stop.
Belleville-area activist JD Dixon joined in and stated that the officers involved should be suspended or terminated.
The Fairview Heights Police Department’s investigation found the officer’s use of force was appropriate, and its findings were backed by independent reviews by the Illinois State Police and O’Fallon branch of the NAACP.
