On February 25, Wingstop submitted a trademark application to the U.S. Patent and Trademark office.

The multi-class trademark was filed to enter the metaverse.

The application includes “downloadable virtual goods,” entailing non-fungible tokens (NFTs) and virtual food and beverages. It also covers the making of an online marketplace where individuals are able to trade NFTs, digital assests, and pieces of art.

With the trademark, downloadable software will be available for trading cryptocurrency, NFTs, and digital tokens. Also, there will be downloadable loyalty and reward cards that the business says can be used for food in the real and virtual world.

Other big companies have done something similar. McDonald’s has already filed trademarks for a virtual dining location that will transport food to people online and in-person. Panera Bread filed a trademark for a “Paneraverse,” which entails NFTs, virtual entertainment, and a virtual rewards program.
