Around 11:13 p.m., on February 28, Mesquite Police and Fire arrived to the scene of an accident in the westbound lanes between FM 741 and FM 740, close to High Country Lane. This is located on the eastern part of Mesquite in Kaufman County.
Police observed an accident between a car and an 18-wheeler. The deceased bodies of a woman and a child were found on the freeway.
Authorities say that the BMW that the woman and the child were riding in had stalled on the highway. The 18-wheeler wasn’t able to come to a stop and hit it. After that, the 18-wheeler jack knifed.
As the woman got out of the car while holding the child, a car drove by and fatally hit them.
Police had closed down all the westbound lanes of traffic to deal with the incident.
