With the city council in agreeance, Kiest Park could be receiving an experimental mobile-food-vendor park this spring and summer.
Dallas’ Department of Convention and Event Services would like Pacific Plaza in Downtown and the Bath House at White Rock Lake as locations for the “Mobile Food Vending Zone Pilot Program.” This would last from May-July.
Pacific Plaza remains on the list; however, the Bath House already has a similar program.
During a discussion at City Hall this week, Councilman Casey Thomas questioned why his side of the town wasn’t thought of as part of the program.
“I know the residents south and west of I-30 would like to have the opportunity,” he stated.
Councilmember Carolyn King Arnold then came up with Kiest Park instead of the Bath House, and the city altered its recommendation to Kiest Park.
The goal of the program is to give restaurant starters cost-efficient space to begin their business. Food trucks are permitted but are not mandatory. Carts or booth set-ups will be permitted, too.
This pilot program will last for 60 days. The city will monitor the litter, noise, traffic, and sanitary actions. That data will be used to see how the program can work throughout the city.
An approval may come next month.
