A Georgia woman attempted to trade an AK-47 rifle for heroin, authorities say.
Jessica Sue Thorpe, 41, was busted after an informant alerted agents of a task force who were performing drug sweeps.
Thorpe has been charged with felony counts of illegal possession of a firearm and possession of drugs with the intent to deliver.
The informant told agents that Thorpe was looking to get $400 for an AK-47 rifle. They had made plans through Facebook Messenger to meet at Arnold Manor public housing high-rise. Instead of cash, they would swap the rifle for two bricks of heroin.
Officials note that one brick of heroin contains close to 50 packets, also known as a stamped bag. These bags can cost between $10-$15.
When a white Chevrolet arrived to the meet-up location, officers saw a male retrieve a black rifle case from the trunk.
Police confronted four people inside the vehicle with the rifle laying across Thorpe’s lap. Crystal methamphetamine was also found in her purse.
Thorpe, who shouldn’t have a gun on her person because she is a covicted felon of arson, confessed to authorities that she was going to trade the gun for drugs.
She has also previously been apprehended for drug possession.
