Reports have indicated that Harris County, Texas, the home of the city of Houston, has over 700 open murder warrants and over 25,000 open felony warrants.
They have 50,672 open warrants altogether, stated the Harris County sheriff’s office.
Documents show that less than 10% of people who had warrants were being apprehended every month in 2021.
Not arresting criminal offenders can lead to them continuing their crimes. Often times, the crimes become more serious.
“Until something is done to get a handle on the crime out there and give the police what they need…it’s going to get worse,” a member of the community stated.
Although new apprehensions are still occurring, 4,000 to 6,000 new warrants are being generated each month.
There are only a little over 12 law enforcement officers in the agency. They deal with finding and detaining the tens of thousands of offenders. This is because there are only 17 investigators and sergeants in the criminal warrant division.
