Trevor Mosher and Audra Rhys have a three-year-old valley bulldog, Freya, that gave birth to seven little puppies on January 27 in Nova Scotia.
Following the birth of the seven puppies, Freya laid down to rest. Immediately after that, she birthed one last puppy. The little dog was born with a black sac around it. That was not the same as the other puppies that were born surrounded by a translucent sac.
Rhys and Mosher thought there was a problem with the dog until it began to move and make sounds. They washed the puppy off and saw that it had light fur with a bright green color.
They have been calling the dog by the name of Fiona after the ogre princess from the movie “Shrek.”
Reports indicated that light-colored dogs are born green in certain rare instances. It most likely occurred after being in contact with biliverdin, a green pigment found in bile, as it was in the womb. The pigment changes the color of the fur and normally goes away after the puppy is birthed.
The couple has stated that “Fiona’s” unique color is fading, now, into a light lime green color.
