In 2019, billionaire and philanthropist Robert F. Smith paid all the debts of Morehouse graduates.

Now, Smith is starting a program for HBCU students. His organization called “Student Freedom Initiative” has teamed up with Prudential Financial to give $1.8 million in small grants to help HBCU students.

Not only will grants be given, but internships and pro bono services will be provided to make financial literacy for HBCU students and their families better.

“… the HELPS Program is a vital component of our work to address the holistic needs of HBCU students and families. Prudential’s gift will provide long-needed and often overlooked aid and support persistence of those most vulnerable in our community.”

As reported before, Smith paid off $34 million in student loan debt for 2019 Morehouse graduates. Additionally, he paid off the student debts that any of their parents had in regards to them, as well.
