27 years ago, a woman and her child were killed. Now, a 51-year-old man has been charged.
Stacy Falcon-Dewey, 23, and her son, Jacob Dewey, 3, were shot and killed in Renton, Washington.
Detectives say they discovered semen on the toddler’s clothes that matched Jerome F. Jones’s DNA. Jones is already in prison for a 1995 murder. Authorities say he killed the mother and son a year before that.
20 years ago, Washington’s Crime Lab was provided with swabs and pieces of Falcon-Dewey’s fingernails. Semen was located on her nails.
However, with new technology and the presence of funding, only recently was the new DNA tested. On February 15, Jones was charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated murder.
In October 1994, the mom and son were discovered, by a newspaper carrier, lying on a street with several gunshot wounds. She had just picked her child up from a babysitter close to 2 a.m.
Documents note that Falcon-Dewey was tied, beaten, made to perform oral sex, and probably had to witness her child being shot in the head.
It was later found that Dewey and the victim had previously resided in the same apartment complex. However, Jones told authorities he didn’t know Falcon-Dewey.
Police had been looking into the case for years; however, they never had a good lead or suspect until the DNA evidence was tested again.
