Netflix’s new documentary “The Tinder Swindler” investigates a con man. That man has now been prohibited from the dating app.
Shimon Hayut is accused of meeting women on Tinder then tricking them into giving him millions of dollars. Hayut catfished the women by telling them that his name was “Simon Leviev.” He also lied to them, saying that he was the son of Israeli diamond tycoon Lev Leviev.
When the documentary was first featured Wednesday, on Netflix, it displayed that Hayut was still active on Tinder.
“We have conducted internal investigations. We can confirm that Simon Leviev is no longer active on Tinder under any of his known aliases,” Tinder said in a released statement.
Although he has been blocked by Tinder, his Instagram account still contains 200,000 followers. On Friday, he posted to his Instagram story, stating that he is getting ready to tell his side of the story.
In 2019, Hayut was placed in an Israeli prison for fifteen months. He is said to have lied to the women by telling them that he feared for his life. They would then give him cash and credit cards. Three of the women discuss the ordeal in the documentary.
“The Tinder Swindler” is already on Netflix’s Top Ten List in the U.S. and U.K.
