Last August, an infamous Grand Prairie cobra went on the loose. A Twitter account appearing to be the snake had gone viral right after the occurrence.

On February 11, the man that was said to have lost the deadly snake was arrested.

Lawrence Matl, 23, was apprehended in the 1800 block of Cherry Street in Grand Prairie. He is accused of violating Parks and Wildlife Code 43.853. This is a Class A misdemeanor for “intentionally, knowingly, recklessly, or with criminal negligence, releasing or allowing the release or captivity” of a harmful snake.

On August 3, 2021, the incident rattled a community in Grand Prairie after the snake first got lost. Although the DFW Wildlife Control put traps out to capture it, they were unsuccessful.

Matl was placed in the Grand Prairie Detention Center on a $10,000 bond. He could receive up to one year in jail and a $500-$4,000 fine.

The cobra still hasn’t been located.
