An Arkansas man is facing murder charges after he beat his girlfriend’s 1 year old daughter to death.
Fort Smith officers responded to a call on January 20 regarding an unresponsive child on the 4100 block of North 50th Street.
Upon arrival they found Jared Lee Ball,32 inside the residence with three young children ages 1,3 and 5.
The 1 year old girl was unresponsive and badly bruised.
The toddler was transported to Mercy hospital where she later died. Doctors noticed a badly bruised rib cage, consistent with a violent shaking that occurred on January 19.
The Medical Examiner reported that the 1 year old sustained a powerful blow to the chest that lacerated the heart. It then caused hemorrhaging into the pericardial sac.
The M.E. also stated that the child’s death could not have been caused by the other children in the home.
Ball was charged with first-degree murder of a child under the age of 14 and also faces charges of domestic battery, drug possession, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He remains in custody on a $500,000 bond.
