A man was fatally shot on a Tennessee highway Thursday afternoon after he pulled out a box cutter.
Landon Eastep,37 was shot dead by nine police officers after a standoff in the middle of the I-65 freeway.
Apparently officers asked Eastep to surrender before he was fatally shot a little before 2pm near the mile marker 76.
Eastep was pronounced dead at the scene.
In a statement released around 8pm, “TBI agents are working to independently determine the series of events leading to the shooting, including collecting evidence and conducting interviews.”
Following the incident Nashville Police Chief John Drake announced he had ordered the stripping of police duties from officer Brian Murphy.
It is believed that Murphy, a 25 year veteran, fired the last two shots from a rifle that killed Eastep.
Five other officers were placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of the investigation.
