A Fort Worth man has filed a lawsuit against an ex-Lake Worth police officer. He is citing excessive force after he was hit by a police SUV while running away from police on foot.
On Monday, dashcam video was revealed in the November 2020 incident. It shows former Officer Jonathan Granado run over Dustin Bates at the conclusion of a motorcycle pursuit.
Bates was found to have warrants and drugs in his possession at the time of the occurrence. He was being pulled over for a license plate that didn’t correlate with his motorcycle.
Neither Bates nor the officer faced charges for a crime.
However, Bates is now suing the officer, stating that he hit Bates head-on after he wrecked his bike, on purpose.
Granado was put on suspension for two weeks after the incident until he quit last month.
Bates was originally charged with evading arrest and drug possession before the charges were dismissed.
